Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is firstly reflected in our guiding principles which were developed before the school started in 1999. The guiding principles are part of the constitution of the Society which runs the school. These principles, along with the rest of the constitution, lay out the basis of unity upon which consensus decisions are made to reflect the current group. This basis of unity is accepted by everyone who joins the community and is the one constant that does not change.
Apart from the basis of unity, the school is continually changing and adapting to the needs of its members through a consensus process. We are continually building a progressive learning environment which fosters our commitment to:
- an open school with open classrooms
- multi-age grouping with nongraded education
- a child centred, friendly environment
- self-directed learning
- bioregional practices and philosophy
- democracy for all participants
- parent involvement in the education process
- affordable alternative education
