Place Week will be a time to inspect our home place, our local history, and learn about Canada, as well as discover what it means to feel a sense of place and be connected to the land. This week's workshops and field trips will give students the opportunity to explore their own sense of place, wherever it may be.

Tuesday August 3rd

Biking to Ross Bay Cemetery

Our first field trip will take us to Ross Bay Cemetery where students will be able to explore a timeline that takes us back at least as far as Sir James Douglas. This field trip will be an fun and interactive way to learn about the history of Victoria.

Thursday August 5th

Biking to Thunderbird Park

For Thursday's field trip, we will be biking down to Thunderbird Park located by the Royal British Museum where we will be given a tour by a granddaughter of the original totem carver.. This gives the students a chance to learn about totem art, symbolism and some local history of BC and Canada.

Activities & Workshops

Some of the activities that we may do this week include making historical maps of Victoria and Canada, learning about First Peoples from across Canada and trying some traditional art forms, creative writing, and story-telling.
