Plant Week (August 9th to 13th)
During Plant Week, students will be involved with flora-oriented activities and workshops. This week will be a discovery of the native plants that grow to create our surrounding ecosystem. An excellent chance to discuss our relationship with plants, chloro-filled with fun. Every other summer program will be green with envy, and students won't want to leaf. A treemendous week!
Tuesday August 10th
Potentially biking to BC Royal Museum
Tuesday's field trip will take us Behind The Scenes in the Natural History department of the BC Royal Museum. Students will have the chance to get to know the researchers who dig, dredge, dive and document their way to new scientific discoveries as well as see new and ancient specimens on public display for the very first time.
Thursday August 12th
Biking to Native Plant Garden
On Thursday, we will take a tour of a native plant garden where students will learn to recognize important native plants, the conditions in which they grow, and come to understand why it is important to protect them.
Activities & Workshops
This week, we may do some of the following activities: identify local native, invasive, and edible/medicinal plants, make paper, plant etching, plant stamping, create teas, learn about growing conditions, different ecosystems, succession, and traditional plant uses.
