Texture (August 16th to 20th)
Texture Week will be another sense-sational week of exploration - this time through touch! Students will be encouraged to explore the textures of their natural environment as well as learn about the importance of texture in many forms of art.
Tuesday August 17th
Biking down Bowker Creek
Our first field trip will be along Bowker Creek where students will be given the chance to test the different textures found in nature as well as collect clay for an activity later in the week.
Thursday August 19th
Biking to the Art Gallery
On Thursday we will be biking to the Art Gallery to see the exhibit SMASH: International Indigenous Weaving, helping us learn about the significance of texture amongst many cultures.
Activities & Workshops
In order to feel out this theme, we will be detecting mystery textures, making slime, working with clay, learning about the Canadian fur trade and how it affected our local sea otter population, creating tactile art, making a texture journal/fieldguide, and learning about Braille. We may be honoured by a visit from an elder from a local First Nation to teach us how to do cedar weaving.
