Plant Week (August 24th to 28th)

During Plant Week students will be involved with plant-oriented activities and workshops. While the previous week was earth-invested, this week will be a discovery of the flora inhabiting our local piece of that earth. An excellent chance to discuss our relationship with plants, chloro-filled with fun. Every other summer program will be green with envy, and students won't want to leaf. A treemendous week!

Tuesday August 25th

Walking to an Urban Farm

For our first plants-themed field trip we will be walking down to an urban farm located close to our school. Here, students can learn about how vegetables are grown, what it requires to farm effectively and sustainably while they help with the harvest, ending with a freshly grown salad vegetable feast.

Thursday August 27th

Walking to Topaz park

On Thursday we will be walking down to Topaz Park to experience natural surroundings. This will be a great time to play wilderness games, and plant-themed activities that will have children thinking about their bioregion in a fun and invested way.

Community Investigation

A member of the community leads a workshop discussing their role or capacity

Brie MacDonald, herbologist extraordinaire and part-time Oak and Orca employee will be gracing us with her informative presence as she leads a herb walk around our school garden. An excellent opportunity to discuss and learn about the medicinal effects of common garden plants and herbs as well as how to grow and prepare them.
